“Don’t be ashamed of needing help. You have a duty to fulfill just like a soldier on the wall of battle. If you are injured and can’t climb up without another soldier’s help, so what?”

-Marcus Aurelius

Josh Zilinek, Therapist

Growing up in today’s hectic world we are often taught that seeking help is a sign that we aren’t good enough, or that we are weak; which simply isn’t the case. When we flip the script, we see that asking for help is a way for us to push forward and improve. Asking for help isn’t something that should hold us back or make us shy away, it’s often the thing that propels us forward into a better life.

When we’re feeling overwhelmed or like the entire weight of the world is on our shoulders, it can feel exhausting or impossible to reach out for help. Sometimes it can feel like we are always in “survival mode”, or like we’re just trying to survive until Friday; only just to do it all again next week. This can be a vicious cycle, where maybe things look alright on the surface, but deep down we are quietly crumbling. I know how difficult this cycle can be, because I’ve lived it myself. Feeling the weight of anxiety throughout my everyday life while I scramble through every week. That’s why my goal as your therapist is to walk alongside you through your troubles and trials, not just try to fix you. By joining you on your journey, I hope to help you build the skills and resolve needed to foster a deeper sense of understanding in yourself, and to feel steady again in life.

I started my career as a therapist working in family homes across South Jersey, often times sitting with families, individuals, and adolescents weeks or sometimes even days after they experienced a crisis. Throughout this work, I realized one crucial thing; that no one exists in a vacuum. Whether I’m working with a teenager one-on-one, an adult, or with an entire family, I always am paying attention to the bigger picture. That picture being the relationships, environments, family dynamics, and patterns that mold and shape how we perceive our world and our emotions.

I am a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) in the state of New Jersey, holding a Master’s in Social Work from Stockton University, located in the heart of South Jersey. I have experience supporting adolescents, young adults, families, and individuals through navigating family troubles, anxiety, depression, and life transitions.

In my free time, I enjoy playing music (guitar and drums), relaxing with a video game and friends, as well as constantly trying every new and random restaurant that opens in the area. I also love all things coffee, and have recently started roasting my own coffee!
