Anxiety, sadness, self-doubt, and a general dissatisfaction with life are all reasons that may cause you to seek out individual therapy as a support. You do not need to be in “comprehensive DBT” in order to be a client here.

Individual Therapy May Be For You

These individual therapy clients benefit from support around a wide range of struggles, many of them not including a mental health diagnosis either. You deserve to be heard, seen and supported along any place in your journey, not just when things get "really bad.”

Many people feel hesitant to seek therapy when they are struggling because they feel shame around the idea of needing support or feel scared about what the experience will be like. Many therapists themselves go to therapy, and the training involved in becoming a therapist often requires it! So there is nothing to be ashamed of, and yet that first call can feel difficult! We get it. We are human too and have needed support at times just like you.

Barriers to Starting Therapy

We often notice barriers to scheduling that first call or appointment. You may conclude that now isn’t the time, or that you “know what to do” in order to make a change in your life, or financial fears keep you from scheduling. Don’t let them!

  • Having a sounding board can help to create real change in your life through assessment and reflection.

  • Having a space that you can be heard and seen as you are, without judgment can provide the setting to heal.

  • Learning techniques to be more present, patient, and grateful can help you shift the perspective you once had, and support you in a way to create movement and gain momentum. Don’t keep putting yourself last on your list.

The Right Fit Matters

We encourage you to try at least 3 sessions with a therapist on our team before making a decision about stopping or transferring. Having the right fit between client and therapist is a key factor in being set up for success. It is common for you to feel worse before you feel better, and that is often because what comes up in therapy can open up doors to issues that have been ignored or put to the side for some time. We are here to support you in finding the ultimate payoff-a life with more ease, meaning and joy.

Self-Awareness

Since DBT incorporates aspects of mindfulness, when you work with one of our DBT Therapists 1:1, you will inevitably learn skills that help you become self-aware in regards to your thought patterns and also your physiological sensations.
