An entire sea of water can’t sink a ship unless it gets inside the ship. Similarly, the negativity of the world can’t put you down unless you allow it to get inside you.” -Goi Nasu

Lisa Pernini

We all know that sometimes life can be hectic, surrounding us with added levels of stress and negativity to deal with. This can be even harder when our emotions are seemingly out of control. The goal of my work is to help you figure out how to manage these overwhelming emotions in order to better cope with the challenging tides surrounding you. This is where DBT can be especially useful, as you will learn ways to better manage your internal emotions despite the external situations.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Public Health from TCNJ in December 2020 and am currently pursuing my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from TCNJ, planning to graduate in May 2024. My experience working on inpatient psychiatric units has guided my passion for helping people find their life worth living. Going through life at a heightened level of stress is exhausting and quite frankly, draining. I strive to help people find a cooler sense of calm in their lives, through implementing the skills of DBT. I hope to be able to partner with you in navigating life’s obstacles and achieving a better state of mind, where life can best be enjoyed to the fullest.

I am passionate about developing my career as a DBT therapist and want to become your ally in overcoming life’s challenges. Therapy takes effort from both sides, and I hope that we can work together on this journey! Deciding to pursue treatment can be scary, which is why I practice with an approachable and nonjudgmental demeanor to ease your concerns about this process.

When I’m not working with clients, I’m usually with my cat, Koko, and my dog, Trixie. I enjoy reading (especially Harry Potter), going to the beach, hiking, and going for walks.
