“You are allowed to be both a masterpiece and a work in progress simultaneously.” – Sophia Bush
In our lives, we not only experience major life changes that can throw us off of our path, but we go through daily struggles that require us to respond effectively more times than not. It’s pretty challenging, and sometimes it doesn’t take much for us to feel lost and unsure of which way to go next. One of my favorite sayings is “Not all storms come to disrupt your life, some come to clear your path.” My goal as a counselor is to help my clients find that path again.
One of the pieces I feel is so valuable in DBT is that the foundation is one of mindfulness. Using the skills taught in DBT, one can allow for mindfulness of emotional experiences, which is a way to validate them. Through mindfulness practice, we can learn that emotions, both negative and positive, in the situations we experience are ALL to be expected. Kind of like expecting trees to be knocked over during the storm, but also a clear sunny sky to follow. We can learn to challenge our thought processes and work towards a place of acceptance. Through mindful self compassion and the choosing a path of acceptance, we can build new insights and strengthen strategies to both prepare and recover from life’s “storms.”
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) as well as Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC) in the State of New Jersey. I earned a BA in Psychology and a Master’s of Art in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Rider University. I have several years of experience helping people in both outpatient and inpatient settings via individual therapy, group therapy, and family/couples therapy. Some of my strongest clinical skills are in helping clients who suffer from addiction and substance use disorders, as well treating emotion dysregulation and trauma.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, my dog, and cat. I enjoy spending time at the Jersey Shore, as well as cooking! If you are ready to start clearing the path, I’m open and willing. Come see me in Moorestown and let’s get moving.
