What is Reiki
Reiki is a very gentle type of energy work that has deeply felt balancing effects in the body and mind.
Reiki is a method of healing founded by Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui in 1922. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. Together, Reiki means “spiritually guided life force energy.” The energy is channeled through the hands of the practitioner and guides, adjusts and attunes the energy of the client so as to be in a more balanced, nourished state.
Reiki can be applied hands-on or off, at the choice of each person.

Meet Your Practitioners

Ashley Fritz is an LAC at DBT of South Jersey, but in addition to being a therapist, she was trained through the direct lineage of Mikao Usui under Reiki Master Faye Webber at Genesis Spiritual Healing and Metaphysical Center. She became a Reiki Level II practitioner in 2016 during an extremely traumatic period, discovering Reiki as the depth of healing and the “missing piece” she had been seeking for so long. As a highly sensitive and empathic person, Reiki provided her with a sense of relief, making it feel possible to breathe again in a world that once felt suffocating.
For two years, Ashley practiced Reiki privately with clients, witnessing massive positive shifts in her own life and in the lives of those she served. In 2018, she returned to become a Reiki Master, deepening her practice and gaining the ability to attune others to Reiki, continuing the Usui lineage. Reiki has profoundly transformed her life, and her goal is to share this healing experience with as many people as feel drawn to this natural service.
Ashley sees Reiki clients at our Voorhees location.
Madison Rubino, a counseling intern at DBT of South Jersey and a Level 2 Reiki Practitioner, completed her Level 1 and 2 certifications in 2024 under the guidance of Dr. Christine Dolahan, Ph.D., a Reiki Master Teacher at The Haven of Harmony in Andover, New Jersey. Dr. Dolahan, trained by masters in the direct lineage of Usui Makao, emphasized Reiki’s power to promote healing and balance.
Madison believes Reiki fosters energetic balance, relaxation, and a sense of peace for those facing challenges. By tuning into energetic blockages and channeling healing energy, she aims to help remove toxicity and restore harmony. Madison will offer Reiki sessions at our Voorhees location.
Mary Evers, an LCSW at DBT of South Jersey and a Level 2 Reiki Practitioner, developed an interest in Reiki through her work exploring the valuable connection between the mind and body. Recognizing the need to raise awareness of this relationship, she pursued training under Abbey McGillivray, a Reiki Master with over 20 years of experience who studied in India and practices in West Chester, PA. Mary completed her Level 1 and 2 Reiki training in 2024.
Her training emphasized understanding the body’s energy centers and their connection to emotions, highlighting how balancing these energies can support emotional healing. Reiki, a spiritually based practice, works with natural energies to promote wholeness and health. Mary will offer Reiki sessions at DBT of South Jersey’s Moorestown location.
What is a Reiki session like?
A typical Reiki session is 1 hour long, but can be extended up to 3 hours.
Typically, there is calming music playing in the room. After a warm welcome and orientation, the client may take whatever posture is most relaxed and comfortable for them – be it seated or laying down.
The practitioner typically does not speak during the session, as she will be tracking energy in the body and paying attention to where healing is needed. However, the individual is always free to talk, ask questions and share – and the practitioner will warmly respond and answer any questions. The client may also request water or a blanket – (clients can feel cold or hot during sessions depending on what they need.)
Reiki can be administered hands on or off, at the preference of the client, and clients are always free to ask the practitioner to pause or stop at any time.
Practitioners may use incense, oils, tuning forks or musical instruments during sessions, but always with the permission of the client, making sure the scents and sounds would enhance, not detract from the experience.
Cost, Frequency & Availability:
1hr is the typical length of a 1:1 Reiki session, but can be extended to 3 hours.
Rates for reiki sessions are based on the individual therapist’s session rates and, as such, vary.
The frequency of sessions will depend on each individual. Your practitioner will assess the energy body of each individual and give a recommendation – such as weekly, monthly and so on. However, it will always be up to what the individual feels meets their needs best.
