LGBTQIA+ Affirming
Come as you are, and gain support in being YOU.
Our team is proud to provide empirically based mental health therapy to LGBTQIA individuals.
Therapy specific to the LGBTQIA+ community may include:
support in coming out
gender identity exploration
increasing effective communication in relationships
emotion regulation skills to assist in increasing your ability to effectively tolerate emotions related to sexual orientation, gender identity, relationships
any co-occurring mental health symptoms.
The American Counseling Association supports therapy as an intervention to address the vulnerabilities that the LGBTQIA community is faced with, including a higher prevalence of mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation.
DBT of South Jersey values the importance of affirming all identities by providing inclusive language in our practice documents, ongoing training for all clinicians to follow the most up to date research and recommendations for working with the LGBTQIA community, and by creating a safe, inclusive space for all genders.
